No. 8 Men's Lacrosse Remains Perfect, Tops DeSales

Engineers Collect 19 Goals for Third Straight Game

TROY, N.Y. – The No. 8 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse team scored 19 goals for the third consecutive game, as the Engineers took down DeSales on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 19-9 at ECAV Stadium. With the win, the nationally-ranked Engineers move to a perfect 4-0 on the season.
 
Despite DeSales scoring the first goal of the game in the opening minute, the Engineers scored early and often as they held a 5-3 lead by the end of the first quarter, and grew that to 9-3 by halftime.
 
Luke Murphy scored three of his five goals to open the second half, all coming in the first five minutes of the half. That extended the RPI lead to 12-3. Murphy scored again with 1:42 left in the quarter, and Zach Swanson added one with 15 seconds left to bring the RPI lead to 14-6.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Engineers continued to keep the offense rolling as Swanson opened the scoring in the quarter, and was finished off with a buzzer-beating score from Will King to collect the 19-9 win.
 
Murphy and Tyler Ruffini each finished with six points apiece, as Murphy scored five times with an assist. Ruffini added two goals and a team-high four assists. In net, Joseph Perry made eight saves for his fourth win of the season.
 
For DeSales, Colin Adams finished with four points with a goal and three assists on the game.
 
The Engineers return to action next Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m. when they take on Muhlenburg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
