Women's Hockey Falls to Brown in ECAC Hockey Playoffs

Engineers Battle to 1-0 Overtime Loss

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team faced off with the Brown Bears in the opening round of the ECAC Hockey Playoffs. The No. 9 seed Engineers and No. 8 Bears played scoreless through regulation before the Bears scored in overtime to take a 1-0 win.

The overtime winner for Brown came at the 8:54 mark of the extra frame. An initial shot from Maya Mangiafico was saved by Amanda Rampado, and bounced straight up in the air toward the back post. As the puck came down, Jess Ciarrocchi took a swing at the puck as it bounced by Rampado into the net. The play would be reviewed for a potential high stick, but was confirmed a goal after video review.

Both sides played even through all three periods of play, as the Engineers opened strong outshooting the Bears 10-7 in the opening period.

Brown put on the pressure in the third period, putting 14 shots on Rampado. The graduate student turned them all away, totaling up 28 shots through the three periods of play.

MJ Alexander led the Engineers in shots with four on net, while Nina Christof added three.

The Engineers end their season with a 13-18-4 overall record, and 5-16-1 record in ECAC Hockey play. RPI's 13 wins are the most in a single season since the 2018-19 season.
