TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team struggled in the third inning of Wednesday evening's home opener, as the Engineers fell to Williams College by a final score of 22-1 at Robison Field at Karl Steffen Ballpark.
After two innings of scoreless baseball, Williams came out swinging in the third inning, collecting 17 runs and batting through the lineup twice to take a big lead on the Engineers. THey also collected 10 hits in the inning.
Williams also added runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to continue pulling away. RPI scored their lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Cam Levesque led off the inning with a triple to the left center field gap, and ended up scoring on a wild pitch to secure the lone run for the Engineers.
Aidan Hicks also doubled for RPI for the only other extra-base hit of the game, while Henry Juan, Will Scott, and Ryan Nakajima collected three hits apiece for Williams. Juan hit a home run, as did freshman Marcus Burrell.
RPI returns to action this Saturday, March 16 as the Engineers face off against Vermont State Castleton in a doubleheader in Troy. First pitch for Game 1 is slated for 12 p.m.
