TROY, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team grabbed one of two from New York University today to wrap the four-game weekend series with the Violets at Karl Steffen Ballpark. NYU took game one 11-5 before the Engineers claimed an 8-2 victory to finish the day.
Jon Primerano went 4-for-5 in the game two victory.
Martin Marintchev,
Aidan Hicks, and
Charlie Lapp each posted multi-hit efforts as well to help the Engineers to the win. Hicks and Marintchev drove in two RBI apiece.
Hicks,
Ayush Krishnappa, and
Stephen Koval each delivered first-inning RBI to stake the Engineers to a 4-0 lead in the finale.
The Engineers added another run in the bottom of the second before scoring three more times in the fourth to extend the advantage to 8-0. Run-scoring singles by Marintchev and Hicks sealed the deal for RPI.
Rylan Wade went 6.0 shutout innings to earn the win on the mound for the Engineers. Wade only surrendered five hits, as he stymied an NYU lineup that worked 13 hits and six walks in game one.
Primerano, Marintchev,
Matt Chotiner, and
Robbie Reddington each logged two hits in the opener. The Engineers did most of their damage in the fifth, when Primerano knocked a two-run double and Chotiner barreled an RBI single to center.
Marintchev laced an RBI triple in the eighth, and
Walker Abdallah singled in a run in the ninth to cap the RPI scoring in game one.
The Engineers will look ahead to next weekend's Liberty League crossover series, with dates and opponents to be announced.
