POTSDAM, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball team grabbed both games of an afternoon doubleheader at Liberty League rival Clarkson this afternoon. The Engineers blanked the hosts 8-0 in six innings before completing the sweep with an 8-1 triumph in game two.
Sydney Speanburg went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored in game one, as her second-inning RBI single scored 
Callista Adorno to put RPI ahead 1-0.
The Engineers scored three times in the fifth before posting a four-run top of the sixth to secure the win. 
Liv Vizzini had four RBI across the two big innings.
Vizzini doubled in 
Erin Askins and Evan McDowell in the fifth-inning rally before driving in Speanburg and 
Maddy Brooks with a bases-loaded single an inning later. Askins and 
Emma Newberry both registered RBI as well in the sixth.
Brooke Sroczinski scattered two hits in 5.0 innings to improve to 14-0 in the circle this year.
Game two saw 
Catherine Worthington and 
Olivia Termi finish with three hits apiece to guide RPI to the sweep. 
Alex Ledger and 
Gabby Comeau each went 2-for-4 in game two.
The Engineers received two RBI from both Termi and Speanburg, with the latter opening the scoring with a run-scoring hit in the second inning of the second straight contest. Speanburg split the gap in right center for a double that allowed Adorno and Comeau to score. Comeau drove in Askins in the third inning to put RPI up 3-0.
Clarkson got a run back in its half of the third before the Engineers scored twice in the fourth. McDowell provided a sacrifice fly RBI as part of the frame. Worthington singled in Adorno and Termi doubled home Speanburg and Worthington in the top of the fifth to cap the RPI scoring.
Looking ahead, RPI next faces Williams College in a Wednesday afternoon meeting at Doris Robison Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4:15 pm in the single, non-conference contest.
