TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team wrapped up their regular season in style, sending their Class of 2024 off in style with a 20-9 victory over the Clarkson Golden Knights at ECAV Stadium Saturday. With the win, RPI secures the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Liberty League Championships.
Goals flowed from both sides early on, as RPI and Clarkson combined for 11 goals in the opening 15 minutes for an RPI 7-4 lead. Senior
Gabbie Valle capped the opening from for the Engineers' seventh goal with just 30 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Freshman
Audrey Silverman picked it right up in the second quarter, scoring in the opening minute to push the RPI lead to 8-4.
In the final two minutes of the first half,
Lauren DeLeo - who also captured her 100th career point with her second goal of the day - and
Megan Shay each scored to give the Engineers an 11-8 lead headed into halftime. Those two goals kickstarted RPI into a huge second half run, outscoring the Golden Knights 9-1 in the second half as the Engineers ran away with the victory.
Valle had a senior day to remember, posting a three goal, three assist afternoon for a team-high six points. DeLeo and Silverman each added five points apiece, with Shay adding a hat trick.
Jenny Canfield earned her seventh win of the season in the cage, making eight saves on the day.
RPI will head to Saratoga on Tuesday to take on the No. 4 seeded Skidmore in the First Round of the Liberty League Championships.
