TROY, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse team advanced to the third round of the 2024 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament with a 15-5 victory over St. Mary's (MD) today at ECAV Stadium.
Cooper Roman posted a game-high three goals in the victory for RPI. Luke Murphy, Cooper Manzi, Erik Ojert, Sean Muller, and Zach Swanson each registered multi-goal performances as well.
Murphy led all players with six points on the day, as he distributed four assists in addition to his two scores.
The RPI attack came out blazing in the first half, as the Engineers scored eight of the first nine goals of the contest to establish control early.
After taking a 9-3 lead into halftime, RPI outscored St. Mary's 5-0Â in the third period to push its advantage to double digits.
Joseph Perry turned away 13 shots in net for the Engineers. Angelo Venuto scooped a game-leading six ground balls and Ojert caused a pair of turnovers to spark the defensive effort.
RPI moves on to a Sunday date against Bowdoin, who defeated Grove City 23-9 in the second game of the day at ECAV Stadium. The third round meeting is set to begin at 3:00 pm in Troy.
