BANGOR, Maine- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball had its spring season come to end with a 2-1 defeat against Husson University today in the 2024 NCAA Division III Softball Championship.
The Eagles, who were serving as the host for this weekend's regional, scored the game-winning run on a walk-off single from Bulla McCabe in the top of the eighth inning.
The Engineers had trailed 1-0 throughout much of the afternoon, until a seventh-inning rally by RPI pushed the action to extra innings.
Liv Vizzini got the Engineers going in the top of the seventh with a leadoff double to center field. After a sacrifice bunt by
Gabby Comeau moved pinch runner Meghan Wamper up a base,
Alex Ledger stepped up to the plate to smash an RBI double off the base of the left field fence.
RPI starter
Brooke Sroczinski did her part in the pitchers dual, as she had allowed only five base runners through the first 7.0 innings until the Eagles put together a pair of two-out hits to post the winning score.
The Engineers finish the season with an overall record of 34-6-1, with their 34 wins marking the most in a season by RPI since 2006.
