CANTON, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse team scored with eight seconds left to claim a 7-6 victory at St. Lawrence in today's Liberty League semifinal matchup. The win advances the Engineers to the Liberty League Championship for the first time since 2016.
Anthony Mazzella netted the game-winner for RPI, capping a three-goal performance for the midfielder.
Cooper Manzi,
Sean Smith,
Luke Murphy, and
Zach Swanson struck for solo goals as well for the Engineers.
Smith, Mazzella, Swanson, and Murphy all scored in the first half to help RPI take a 4-2 lead into the break.
The Saints scored four the first five goals of the second half to tie the action at 6-6, setting up the Mazzella walk-off strike.
Joseph Perry made 16 saves in the for RPI. Perry, Smith,
Ely Kalkstein, and
Jack Greene caused two turnovers apiece.
Sunday's championship begins at 12:00 pm in Tiger Stadium in Rochester.
