ITHACA, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team came out victorious in their opening matchup at the Liberty League Championships on Friday afternoon, as the Engineers defeated the Ithaca College Bombers by a final score of 5-0 at the Reis Tennis Center.
RPI used a big 3-0 sweep in doubles play to begin the match, as the sister duo of
Lorna Flores Gonzalez and
Krisia Flores Gonzalez rose tot he occasion at No. 1 doubles with an 8-3 victory, while
Brooke Bauer and
Prisha Rapur led off the session with an 8-2 win. Rounding out doubles as
Masha Karach and
Lina Krumpel at No. 2 doubles, battling to an 8-5 victory.
In singles play, Rapur and
Krisia Flores Gonzalez each took wins - with Rapur putting the Engineers at match point with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles before Flores Gonzalez went 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. The remaining matches came to a halt, going unfinished.
The Engineers will now take on No. 2 seed Skidmore on Saturday starting at 5 p.m.
