TROY, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball team secured home field advantage throughout the Liberty league playoffs with two shutouts today versus St. Lawrence. The Engineers used strong pitched and timely hitting to defeat to Saints 1-0 and 3-0 in the final Saturday of the regular season.
Brooke Sroczinski struck out 11 batters as she surrendered only one hit across 7.0 innings in the opening contest. 
Ava Markert went the distance for the Engineers in game two, as she scattered four hits in her complete-game effort.
Sydney Speanburg provided RPI with its only run in game one when she doubled in 
Gabby Comeau in the bottom of the second.
Liv Vizzini and 
Alex Ledger also recorded RBI doubles in the finale, with the pair contributing to the Engineer's big sixth inning that extended the RPI lead from one to three.
Erin Askins went 2-for-3 in game two with a team-high two runs.
The Engineers will look ahead to next weekend's Liberty League Championship, which will take place Thursday, May 9 through Saturday, May 11 at Doris Robison Field.
