TROY, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team has announced the addition of graduate transfer
Arvils Bergmanis to the 2024-25 roster.
"
Arvils Bergmanis brings a wealth of experience to our program, having competed at a high level for three years in college hockey," said RPI Head Coach
Dave Smith. "His time with the Latvian men's national team, where he faced off against some of the world's best teams, further demonstrates his ability to perform under pressure. Arvils'Â outstanding character and work ethic align perfectly with our team's values, making him a tremendous addition to RPI men's hockey."
Bergmanis, a 5-foot 11-inch defender, arrives in Troy having played the last three seasons at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. Bergmanis scored six goals and registered 31 assists in his 99 games in a Nanook uniform, including a career-high 18-point effort in 2023-24.
Like RPI teammates
Rainers Rullers and
Gustavs Ozolins, Bergmanis has been a fixture in the Latvian national program in recent years. The 24-year old was selected to represent his country in the 2024 World Championship and joins the Engineers after participating in a series of Olympic qualification prep contests for Latvia in August.
