ROCHESTER, NY- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball team was suffered a last-minute defeat at RIT this evening, with the host Tigers netting a pair of free throws with 1:19 remaining to earn the one-point win.
Siena Smith had given RPI 58-57 advantage courtesy of a three-pointer with 1:38 left, however RIT would earn the game-deciding shooting foul on the next possession.
Smith finished with game-high 22 points, which included 3-of-5 shooting from downtown. She also led the Engineers with nine rebounds.
RPI was ahead by 52-44 with six minutes to play, but 13 of the final 19 points belonged to the Tigers as the hosts sprinted to the late Liberty League win.
Tyler Hormazabal logged 12 points, four, rebounds, and six steals and Emilia Rojik tallied 10 points on a perfect 5-for-5 shooting night. Rojik, Julia Rowe, and Molly Libby grabbed three boards apiece as well.
RPI will look to bounce back with a 12:00 pm matchup at Skidmore on Sunday.
