RPI Finishes Season on High Note with Draw Versus #20 William Smith

TROY, NY — Facing one of the top teams in the nation, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team battled No. 20-ranked William Smith to a scoreless draw this afternoon in ECAV Stadium.

Each team recorded 17 total shots, including six on goal for the Engineers and eight for the Herons, but neither squad could break through. RPI goalkeeper Audrey Montero stood tall for the Engineers, stopping all eight shots on goal she faced to record the clean sheet. Her counterpart, Antonia Goerke, made six saves for William Smith.

Emma Rosenberg led the team with five shots, including two on goal, while forward Isabelle Gelzhiser added three shots, two of which tested the Herons' keeper. Midfielder Genevieve Ricci and defender Sophia Byron also added multiple attempts, with Byron nearly scoring late in the first half on a strike that hit the crossbar.

Despite being out-cornered 10-2, the Engineers stayed composed and organized defensively, turning away each of William Smith's set pieces and surges forward. The team's cohesive backline, including Delaney McMorris, Keleigh Nihart, and Greta Heldman, anchored the effort in to help the Engineers earn their ninth shutout of the fall.

The draw brings RPI's season record to 6-7-4 overall.
