NIAGARA, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team completed a weekend sweep of Niagara University with a 3–2 victory tonight at Dwyer Arena.
Filip Sitar led the Engineers with two power-play goals, including the third-period game-winner, while goaltender
Bruno Bruveris made 36 saves in net for the Engineers.
The Purple Eagles struck twice in the opening frame, converting on a power play at 15:14 and adding another at 17:47. RPI responded before the intermission when Sitar buried a power-play one-timer at 19:08, set up by
Luciano Wilson and
Thomas Klassek, to halve the deficit.
Early in the second period, the Engineers drew even as
Jack Gorton slapped home a shot following help on a breakout from
Jackson Kyrkostas and
Cole Gordon. RPI's penalty kill stood tall through back-to-back minors midway through the frame, with Bruveris turning aside multiple chances to keep the score tied.
The decisive moment came 6:10 into the third when Sitar struck again on the power play, roofing one home following quick passes from
Tyler Wallace and Wilson for his second goal of the night and team-leading seventh of the season. The Engineers' defense and Bruveris handled the rest, weathering late pressure and a six-on-five sequence to secure the win.
RPI returns home Friday to host Quinnipiac at 7:00 pm inside Houston Field House.
