Engineers Stay Perfect at Home with 68-49 Win Over Clarkson

TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball team raced out early and never looked back, defeating Clarkson 68–49 to open Liberty League play inside ECAV Arena.

Siena Smith finished with a game-high 21 points on 8-for-18 shooting (3-for-5 3PT) and four assists, while Sophie Costello added 14 on an efficient 7-for-10 night to help RPI remain unbeaten this season in ECAV Arena.

RPI's defense and pace carved a 19–5 first-quarter cushion, keyed by Smith's paint attacks and Costello's run outs off turnovers. The margin swelled to 34–15 by halftime after Niamh Gendron splashed back-to-back threes and Megan Heyns canned another from long range

Clarkson answered with a flurry of triples in the third to trim the gap to 49–39, but the Engineers slammed the door in the fourth. Brooke Boyle drilled a right-wing three, Costello knifed in for two fast-break layups, and Smith buried a step-in triple before tacking on two late drives to restore a double-digit lead for good.

Costello added three steals and three assists, while Boyle logged 11 points, five rebounds and three steals. Gendron recorded six points, seven boards, Tyler Hormazabal provided six rebounds and four steals, and Emilia Rojik had a team-best seven rebounds.

RPI finishes the weekend at home with a 2:00 pm matchup against St. Lawrence.
