TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team dropped a 4–0 decision to Princeton University on Saturday night at Houston Field House.
The Engineers generated 22 shots, including multiple power-play opportunities, while goaltender
Nate Krawchuk made 31 saves in net.
After a scoreless first period that saw Krawchuk make nine stops, Princeton broke through at 11:11 of the second when Jake Manfre scored on a deflection in front. The Engineers responded with sustained offensive pressure late in the frame, including chances from
Tyler Wallace,
Filip Sitar, and Kaz Sobieski, but were unable to solve Tiger goaltender Conor Callaghan, who finished with a 22-save shutout.
RPI opened the third period aggressively, with Sitar and
Rainers Rullers each generating early attempts before a Princeton power play doubled the lead at 3:01. Two even-strength goals midway through the frame sealed the result, though the Engineers continued to battle, earning three power plays and recording nine blocks defensively.
Krawchuk's 31-save effort included 13 stops on the penalty kill, as RPI held Princeton to one goal on four opportunities.
The Engineers head into the winter break looking forward to its next contest Saturday, January 3 at the University of Vermont.
