BOSTON, Mass. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team continued its strong ECAC Hockey play with a resilient 3–1 road victory over Harvard on Saturday afternoon at Bright-Landry Hockey Center. Three different Engineers found the back of the net to combine with 26 saves from
Reese Keating in the win.
After falling behind early on a Harvard power-play tally midway through the first period, the Engineers regrouped defensively and controlled the pace the rest of the way.
RPI's breakthrough came at 12:46 of the second period when
Nina Christof evened the score on the power play, wiring home a wrist shot from the right circle off a setup from
Gracyn Mackay.
With the score still tied deep into the third period, the Engineers' persistence paid off. At 16:10,
Sabrina Beaudoin netted the game-winner, finishing a rebound off a shot from
Taryn Rathwell, with Cioffi also collecting an assist on the play.
Harvard pulled its goaltender for an extra attacker in the closing minutes, however
Charlotte Wensley sealed the result with an empty-net goal at 18:16. Beaudoin added the assist, completing a two-point afternoon and her fourth multi-point performance of the season.
Carla McSweeney scored the only goal for Harvard, while goaltender Emily Davidson made 25 saves in defeat.
The Engineers will head into the winter break with their next contests set for Friday, January 2nd at Brown.
