PRINCETON, NJ - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's ice hockey team saw its season come to a close in the opening round of the ECAC Playoffs today at Princeton.
Rosie Klein scored on a power-play with nine minutes remaining to provide the host Tigers with the game-winning goal in the 3-2 result.
The Engineers had just overcome a one-goal deficit moments before, as a
Sophie Helgeson strike deadlocked the action at 2-2 only 90 seconds prior to the go-ahead score from Klein.
RPI netted the first goal of the afternoon, as the Engineers were rewarded on an early power-play thanks to
Aylah Cioffi at 11:56 in the first.
Princeton found the back of the net with 15 seconds left in the opening frame before increasing their advantage with five minutes to play in the second period.
The Tigers defense did its job after securing the go-ahead score, as Princeton blocked seven shots and received two saves from Jennifer Olonowich across the closing moments of the one-score contest.
Sophia Jones and
Nina Christof earned assists on the opening goal by Cioffi, while
Sabrina Beaudoin provided the help on Helgeson's score.
Reese Keating stopped 34 shots in net for RPI.
The Engineers' season comes to a close with an overall record of 14-18-3, marking the most wins by the program since the 2018-19 season.Â
