TROY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's basketball team secured the Liberty League regular season championship with a 72-49 triumph over St. Lawrence this afternoon in ECAV Arena.
Dylan Matchett topped RPI with 15 points, seven rebounds, and two steals.
Avery Eugster and
Yechiel Stewart had 13 points each, and
Andrew Deppe finished with 10 points, four rebounds, and four assists.
The Engineers enjoyed a 28-point advantage at halftime after St. Lawrence was limited to just 14 points on 5-of-22 shooting in the first 20 minutes. Conversely, the Engineers made 15 of their first 23 shots, including nine three-pointers in the opening half.
PJ Scalisi had nine points, seven rebounds, six assists, and two blocks. Scalisi joined Matchett, Eugster, and Stewart with three long-balls tonight.
Entering the Liberty League tournament as the top-seed for the first time since the 2021-22 season, the Engineers will enjoy an opening round bye before hosting the winner of Hobart/Union on Friday night in ECAV.
