TROY, NY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse team logged its eighth consecutive win with a 14-9 victory at Williams tonight.
Erik Ojert scored four times and added one assist to log a team-high five points for RPI. Angelo Venuto netted three goals and Evan Whatley had two rallies as well.
Zach Swanson, Tyler Ruffini, and Easton Morse supplied one goal and one assist apiece, while Sean Mullen and JD Townsend struck one time each. Sean Smith had an additional assist too.
The #4 nationally-ranked Engineers never trailed tonight, but needed to fight to stave off the host Ephs.
After Williams cut the margin to 10-9 with less than 10 minutes to play in the fourth, RPI rallied for the final four goals of the night to account for the winning margin.
Venuto, Whatley, Ojert and Townsend all contributed goals in the Engineers' game-clinching sprint.
Gavin Cousineau created three turnovers and Will McGrath had two CTs on the defensive end. Venuto topped all players with 12 ground balls.
Looking forward, RPI will head to Rochester for a rematch of last spring's Liberty League Championship at #3 RIT. The Saturday tilt is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm.
