Softball Takes Two from Oneonta

TROY, NY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball team defeated Oneonta 2-1 and 4-2 today at Doris Robison Field.

After trailing throughout six innings of game one, the Engineers scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to tally a walk-off victory in opener.

Ryleigh Falvey tripled home Addison Shaffer before Falvey touched home for the game-winning run on an infield grounder by Evann McDowell.

Falvey finished 2-for-3 in each contest this afternoon, as she was one of three Engineers to post two or more hits in the second game of the day. Callista Adorno was 3-for-3 and and Sydney Speanburg tallied two base knocks, additionally.

RPI registered a run in the bottom of the first on an Adorno double that plated Speanburg. The Engineers would tack on solo runs in the second and fourth as well, with Lauren Cosselman singling home Olivia Termi before a Speanburg brought home Falvey two innings later.

Caroline Peel helped produce RPI's fourth run with a productive groundout that scored Addison Shaffer in the bottom of the fifth.

Ava Markert and Gaby Heim each provided compete-game efforts to earn the respective victories in the circle for the Engineers. Both pitchers struck out six batters apiece.

The Engineers will now look ahead to the start of Liberty League play, as RPI head to Skidmore for its first two conference games on Saturday afternoon.
