TROY, NY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team started the weekend with an 11-8 win against SUNY Cobleskill today in Karl Steffen Ballpark.
Ian Oehlschlaeger was 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBI. The freshman reached base in all five plate appearances, as he also drew a walk and was hit twice by a pitch.
Jon Primerano came around to score all four times he was on base, and Aidan Hicks scored three runs out of the leadoff spot.
Charlie Lapp and Michael Lebenson drove in two runs apiece. Lebenson and fellow infielder Matt Chotiner both finished the day with two hits.
RPI was behind 5-1 when Oehlschlaeger and Lebenson helped RPI plate two in the bottom of the fourth. Oehlschlaeger singled in Hicks, while Lebenson generated a run on a high infield chopper that scored Primerano.
Lebenson was also part of the the Engineers' two-run fifth inning, as he brought home Primerano with a single to tie the game at 5-5.
The Tigers scored once in the top of the seventh to briefly retake the lead before RPI blew things open with five runs in the bottom half of the stanza.
Oehlschlaeger cleared the fence in left for a two-run homer, Chotiner had an an RBI double, and Lapp knocked in a pair of runs with a triple to the right-center field gap in the big inning.
Looking ahead, RPI is next scheduled to host SUNY Brockport and SUNY Oneonta in a split doubleheader tomorrow at Steffen Ballpark.
