TROY, NY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team was defeated 11-9 by Vassar this afternoon in game one of a weekend Liberty League series.
The Brewers sprinted ahead 6-0 in the top of the first on the way to the victory.Â
The freshman duo of Ian Oehlschlaeger and Michael Lebenson each had multi-hit performances for RPI. Oehlschlaeger finished 3-for-4 while Lebenson notched two hits in the setback.
Eight of RPI's nine runs came in two innings, as the Engineers scored three times in the bottom of the first before putting up a five-spot in the sixth.
Ayush Krishnappa drove in two runs as part of the first inning rally. Walker Abdallah had a two-run single, and Oehlschlaeger, Lebenson, and Julian Scarpa contributed run-scoring hits in the big sixth inning.
Vassar's reached as much as 11-4 in the middle innings. The Brewer's lineup produced 11 hits and seven walks to secure the conference win.
Jon Primerano registered a game-high three runs. Aidan Hicks and Oehlschlaeger added two runs apiece, additionally.
The two sides will head to south to conclude the weekend set with a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon in Poughkeepsie.
