Shaffer Homers in NCAA Opener Versus Tufts

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball team opened play at the NCAA Division III Softball Championship with an 8-1 defeat against Tufts University this afternoon at regional host Rowan University.

Addison Shaffer hit a solo home run in the top of the second inning to provide RPI's lone run.

Schaffer's blast tied the score at 1-1, however Tufts scored the final seven runs to claim the victory.

Evann McDowell and Olivia Termi had singles for the Engineers, joining Shaffer in the hit column. Tufts held a 13-3 advantage in the hit column.

RPI will next face Cortland at 1:30 pm tomorrow afternoon in the elimination bracket.
