TROY, NY – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse team had a program-record 10 players earn All-Liberty League accolades, with goaltender
Joseph Perry being named the conference's Defensive Player of the Year, the first such honor in RPI men's lacrosse history.
A starter in all 17 games for the Engineers this season, Perry compiled a 14-3 overall record in net. Perry boasts a league-low 7.45 goals against average and is ranked second among conference goalies with a .593 save percentage. In 948 minutes, he recorded 172 saves and averages 10.12 saves per game. He is second on the team in ground balls (47) and caused turnovers (24). Nationally, Perry is fourth in goals against average and 16th in save percentage. He also contributed to the RPI offense with three goals and an assist.
Additionally, Perry was selected to the All-Liberty First Team, where he was joined by attacker
Tyler Ruffini, midfielders
Zach Swanson and
Gavin Cousineau, defenseman
Nick Biava, and faceoff specialist
Angelo Venuto.
Ruffini was second in the league respectively with 69 points and 36 assists, while Swanson registered 35 points on 22 goals and 13 helpers. Cousineau, a short stick midfielder, had eight goals and three assists, in addition to 29 ground ballas and 10 caused turnovers. Biava's 25 caused turnovers listed fifth-best in the league, and Venuto topped the conference in ground balls (169) and faceoff win percentage (.675) as well.
The Engineers also saw attackman
Easton Morse named All-Liberty League Second Team, and the trio of midfielder
Sean Smith, long stick
Ty Stanek, and defender
Jack Greene honored on the league's Third Team.
Morse was second in the league with 43 goals to go along with 21 assists. Smith totaled 15 goals and nine assists, and Stanek and Greene forced 18 and 14 turnovers, respectively.
The Engineers begin play in the NCAA Division III Championship against Williams on Saturday afternoon in Wesleyan, Conn.
