ITHACA, NY – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team was limited in its Liberty League Championship opener against Ithaca this afternoon. The Bombers, who are the top seed and host of this weekend's tournament, used a big fourth inning to pull away for good in the 13-1 triumph.
Michael Lebenson went 2-for-4 and generated the only run of the day for the Engineers when his single to right field scored
Jon Primerano in the top of the fourth. Primerano finished with one hit, as did
Aidan Hicks,
Ayush Krishnappa, and
Matt Chotiner.
After the Lebenson single cut the Ithaca lead to 2-1 in the fourth, the Bombers manufactured a two-out rally in the next half inning that resulted in six runs thanks to six hits, two errors, and two walks. Ithaca would score five more runs across the seventh and eighth innings as well.
The Engineers will continue tournament play against either Clarkson or Skidmore tomorrow at 10:00 AM.
