TROY, N.Y. — A penalty kick goal in the fourth minute was all Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) needed to secure a 1-0 victory over Drew University in non-league women's soccer action this afternoon in ECAV Stadium.
RPI opened the scoring just 3:16 into the match, when
Maddy Kaminski calmly converted a penalty kick to give the Engineers the early advantage. The goal marked Kaminski's second of the season and proved to be the game-winner.
Rensselaer finished the day four attempts on target while holding the Rangers scoreless.
Audrey Montero recorded five saves in the shutout, including a pair of stops on high-percentage chances in the opening half and a critical point-blank save in the game's closing minutes.
The Engineers generated two corner kicks in the second half while limiting Drew's quality opportunities down the stretch. RPI's defensive unit held firm, highlighted by multiple clearances and a composed performance from the back line to preserve the clean sheet.
RPI will look to push its winning streak to four in a row with a Tuesday road meeting at Mount Saint Vincent.
