Women's Tennis Opens Liberty League Play with 6-1 Win at Bard

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team opened Liberty League play in dominant fashion this afternoon, earning a 6-1 victory over Bard College at the Stevenson Athletic Center. The Engineers swept all three doubles courts and claimed five of the six singles matches in straight sets.

Doubles play set the tone early, with RPI taking all three courts decisively. Taylor Chandler and Kayla Wheeler got things started at No. 2 doubles, shutting out Lisa Kyrtoka and Patricia Santos, 6-0. Moments later, Victoria Sarabosing and Prisha Rapur matched the feat with a 6-0 win at No. 3 over Jesse Radzik and Natalie Lagunes. RPI completed the doubles sweep at the top court, as Juliette Ceas and Nicole Ridenour recorded a 6-2 win over Maria Castro and Paige Houghton to give the Engineers a 1-0 match lead.

In singles play, the Engineers quickly rattled off four straight-set victories to clinch the match. Prisha Rapur was the first to finish, blanking Lagunes 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3. Victoria Sarabosing and Taylor Chandler followed with 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1 wins at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Juliette Ceas added a 6-2, 6-1 result at No. 2, before Kayla Wheeler capped off the day with a competitive 6-3, 7-5 win over Castro in the top spot.

The Engineers return to the court on tomorrow when they travel to New Paltz for a non-league matchup at 4:00 p.m.
