ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball team suffered a 59–43 setback to RIT this afternoon.
RPI started well, jumping out to a 10–5 lead, but the Tigers answered with a trio of threes to close the first up 18–12 and carried a 30–24 edge into the break.
The turning point arrived after halftime, when RIT used an 19–7 third quarter to create separation. RPI provided a late fourth-quarter burst, but the Tiger advantage was too much to overcome.
Siena Smith led the Engineers with 10 points and four rebounds, while
Sophie Costello finished with nine points and two steals.
Tyler Hormazabal added eight points and two boards,
Niamh Gendron grabbed a team-high six rebounds, and Boyle contributed four points and two rebounds.
