SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's basketball team built a 10-point halftime lead but fell 67–60 at Skidmore after the hosts caught fire from three in the second half.
PJ Scalisi produced a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds while adding a team-best six steals, and
Yechiel Stewart scored 12 points with six boards to pace the backcourt.
Kellen Driscoll chipped in nine points and six rebounds,
Nate Tawiah-Boateng supplied nine points and four boards off the bench, and
Andrew Deppe added eight points, six rebounds, and two steals as RPI won the glass 40–34.
RPI led 36–26 at intermission behind late first-half threes from
Andrew Deppe and
PJ Scalisi, but Skidmore flipped the tenor after the break with a string of perimeter makes, outscoring the Engineers 41–24 and closing with 12 three-pointers overall (7-for-13 in the second half).
Despite 15 second-chance points and 26 points in the paint, RPI's was limited to 6-of-21 shooting after halftime, including 2-for-18 from three.
The Engineers will challenge league-leading Union tomorrow at 4:00 pm in Schenectady.
