Engineers Unable to Get Over Hump at #14 Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's ice hockey team was tied late in the second period but ultimately fell 3–1 to #14 Dartmouth College tonight at Thompson Arena.

After a scoreless opening period marked by strong defense and goaltending on both sides, Dartmouth struck first on the power play at 12:54 of the second period.

The Engineers answered just over three minutes later when Jagger Tapper evened the score at 16:08, with Tapper getting getting the final touch on an even-strength opportunity off assists from Ian Scherzer and Thomas Klassek.

Dartmouth responded late in the middle frame, regaining the lead with just over two minutes left in the period on what proved to be the game-winning goal. The hosts then added an insurance tally just 46 seconds later to take a 3–1 advantage into the second intermission.

Despite the deficit, the Engineers continued to push in the third period, generating chances off the sticks of Tyler Wallace, Rainers Rullers, and Filip Sitar, while pressing with the extra attacker in the final minutes.

In goal, Bruno Bruveris made 25 saves, including 12 in the second period during an extended stretch of pressure from the Big Green.

RPI next travels to Clarkson and St. Lawrence next Friday and Saturday night, respectively.
