Football Blanks Buffalo State for Third Straight Win

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The RPI football team remained unbeaten in Liberty League play with a 56-0 victory over Buffalo State this afternoon at Coyer Field. The Engineers improved to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in conference action while recording their second consecutive shutout.

RPI opened the scoring on its first possession when Kayden White capped a seven-play, 42-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run. White added a two-yard score early in the second quarter before Frank Ruta finished a 63-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 21-0.

The Engineers' defense helped create another scoring opportunity when Luke Lavello intercepted a Buffalo State pass. RPI later pushed the advantage to 28-0 before halftime as Micah Balzarini connected with Gage Swanger for a three-yard touchdown.

RPI continued to pull away after the break. Ruta scored from one yard out on the opening possession of the third quarter before Justin McCormack added touchdown runs of two and three yards. Jake Henehan completed the scoring with a five-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.

White paced the Engineers with 114 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries, while Adrien Gurung added 51 yards on eight attempts. Henehan rushed for 44 yards and a score, and Ruta and McCormack each finished with two rushing touchdowns. Robbie Peterson led the receiving corps with six catches for 70 yards as RPI totaled 441 yards of offense, including 253 on the ground.
