Women's Soccer Scores in 89th Minute to Draw with St. Lawrence

TROY, N.Y. — Maddy Kaminski scored twice, including a dramatic equalizer in the final two minutes, as the RPI women's soccer team battled St. Lawrence to a 2-2 Liberty League draw this afternoon at ECAV Stadium. The Engineers moved to 4-5-5 overall and 0-5-2 in conference play.

RPI struck first just 4:27 into the contest when Kaminski converted a penalty kick to give the Engineers an early 1-0 advantage. St. Lawrence answered shortly before halftime, as Charlotte Manganello finished a setup from Zoe Rogan in the 40th minute to send the teams into the break tied at 1-1.

Hanna Pihu entered in goal for RPI to begin the second half and made four saves as the Saints increased their pressure. Pihu turned away three shots during the opening 26 minutes of the period before Aver Asom broke through in the 75th minute to put St. Lawrence ahead 2-1.

The Engineers continued to push for the equalizer, generating three corner kicks after halftime. Their persistence paid off with just 1:22 remaining. After Elsa Ryan generated the initial opportunity, Isabelle Gelzhiser helped set up Kaminski, who found the back of the net for her second goal of the afternoon to pull RPI even at 2-2.

Kaminski finished with two goals on two shots on target, while Sophia Byron recorded a team-high three attempts and Gelzhiser collected the assist on the tying goal. RPI finished with six shots and three corner kicks, while St. Lawrence totaled nine shots and six corners. Ava Gaboury handled the opening half in goal before Pihu recorded four saves over the final 45 minutes.
