Women’s Hockey Unable to Break Through Versus Union

TROY, N.Y. – Reese Keating turned aside 27 shots and the RPI women's hockey team generated 18 shots on goal in the third period, but Union held on for a 1-0 victory over the Engineers tonight.

The teams played through a scoreless opening period, with Keating stopping all 13 shots she faced. RPI generated chances from Kendal Davidson, Barbora Cerna-Proskova, Kate Elbrecht, Keira Johnson, and Georgia Bailey, while the Engineers also successfully killed off Union's only power-play opportunity of the night.

Union broke the tie just 46 seconds into the second period when Giavanna Mancy scored an unassisted goal. RPI responded with several opportunities throughout the frame, including a power play early in the period, but Union maintained the 1-0 advantage heading into the third. Keating stopped all nine additional shots she faced following the goal to keep the Engineers within one.

The Engineers mounted their strongest push in the third, outshooting Union 18-5 over the final 20 minutes. RPI created sustained pressure midway through the frame and received three consecutive power-play opportunities, with Davidson, Kaylynn Fisher, and Alexis Brunet among those generating chances around the Union net.

RPI pulled Keating for an extra attacker multiple times down the stretch and continued to press through the final seconds, including a Fisher attempt with two seconds remaining, but was unable to find the tying goal. Keating finished with 27 saves, while Davidson and Johnson led the Engineers with five shots on goal apiece. RPI also held a 30-22 advantage in faceoffs, led by 13 wins from Bailey.
