Men's Lacrosse Regroups to Tally 18-13 Win at SUNY Geneseo

GENESEO, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse team earned an 18-13 road win over Geneseo this afternoon.

RPI's offense was paced by Tyler Ruffini, who finished with a team-high five points on four goals and one assist. Sean Smith added three goals, while Easton Morse recorded four points on a goal and three assists. Cooper Manzi, Andrew Childs, and Nolan Lawler each scored twice, helping the Engineers put 10 different players in the goal column.

The Engineers came out fast and built an early cushion, scoring the first four goals of the day. Manzi opened the scoring and netted two of RPI's first four, while Ruffini and Smith also struck during the opening surge to make it 4-0.

Geneseo answered with a pair of goals, but RPI kept momentum in the first quarter. Ben Shocket scored in transition and Childs buried back-to-back goals just one second apart off feeds from Morse, as the Engineers carried a 7-4 lead through 15 minutes.

RPI added to the margin in the second quarter and took control before halftime. Morse opened the scoring in the frame, Ruffini scored twice in the period, and Smith added another as the Engineers outscored Geneseo 5-1 in the quarter to build a 12-5 lead at the break.

Geneseo made a push coming out of halftime, scoring first in the third, but RPI answered at key moments. Jackson Massaroni converted a man-up chance at 11:46, Patrick Keegan scored off a Manzi assist at 6:44, and Ruffini finished from Childs at 6:03. After Geneseo closed within 15-10, Lawler and Smith scored late in the quarter to push the Engineers back in front by seven at 17-10 entering the fourth.

The hosts trimmed the margin to 17-12 in the final quarter, but Gabriel Seldow scored with five seconds remaining to cap the RPI scoring and seal the victory. Geneseo added a goal at the buzzer for the 18-13 final.

The Engineers next travel to Muhlenburg for a 1:00 pm meeting next Saturday.
