TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball team controlled the game at both ends and pulled away from William Smith 58–46 tonight inside ECAV Arena.
Siena Smith led the Engineers with 15 points and six rebounds, while
Brooke Boyle added 11 points and seven boards as RPI used a strong first quarter and a decisive third-period run to secure the victory.
RPI set the tone early, racing out to a 19–8 lead after the opening ten minutes.
William Smith answered in the second, holding RPI to just eight points in the frame, but timely free throws from Smith and a late basket before the horn kept the Engineers in front, 27–22, at the break.
The game swung decisively coming out of halftime. Smith drilled two threes in the first two minutes of the third quarter,
Tyler Hormazabal followed with a pair of free throws and a transition layup, and Boyle converted inside through contact as RPI opened the half on a 10–2 burst. The Engineers stretched the margin to as many as 15 behind continued pressure defense and efficient shooting, carrying a 49–37 advantage into the final quarter.
RPI maintained control in the fourth, answering every William Smith push with timely baskets, including a Blaney layup and a late Hormazabal three.
Hormazabal contributed nine points, five steals, and four assists, and
Sophie Costello added nine points and four steals as RPI forced 19 turnovers and turned them into 15 points. Rojik chipped in 7 points and a team-high eight rebounds off the bench.
