Engineers Unable to Contain Clarkson in Home Opener

TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team dropped an 11-5 decision to Clarkson in its Liberty League opener this afternoon at ECAV Stadium.

RPI was led offensively by Camille Stackhouse, who posted a hat trick on three goals, while Kacey Pritts recorded three points (one goal, two assists). Audrey Silverman added two points (one goal, one assist) and also assisted on RPI's man-up tally, while the Engineers' other goal came from Silverman in the fourth quarter.

In goal, Lillian Brady made four saves in the opening half, and Halley Feaga stopped three shots after the break.

Clarkson seized control early, scoring five times in the opening quarter to build a 5-0 lead. The Golden Knights struck first at 12:52 and added a free-position goal a minute and a half later before extending the run with three more tallies, including a assisted finish at 7:03, to take a five-goal advantage into the second.

The visitors pushed the margin to 6-0 just 16 seconds into the second quarter, but RPI responded with its best stretch of the afternoon. Stackhouse got the Engineers on the board with a free-position goal at 11:41, then scored again at three minutes later to cut the deficit to 6-2. Clarkson answered with a goal at 5:18 and another free-position conversion with 22 seconds left in the half to carry an 8-2 lead into intermission.

RPI opened the second half with improved energy and capitalized on the man advantage, as Pritts finished a man-up goal at 6:15 of the third quarter off a feed from Silverman to make it 9-3. Clarkson added a goal later in the period, but the Engineers continued to battle into the fourth.

In the final quarter, Clarkson extended the lead at 40 seconds into the frame before RPI produced a pair of answers. Silverman scored at 10:34 off an assist from Pritts, and Stackhouse completed her hat trick at 6:19, again assisted by Pritts, trimming the margin to 10-5. Clarkson added the final goal with two minutes remaining to close out the scoring.

RPI continues league play at Skidmore on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
