Engineers Defeat New Paltz at Home

TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 on the season this afternoon with a 9-6 win against New Paltz at ECAV Stadium.

After New Paltz opened the scoring on an unassisted goal by Mia Baldinger at 11:19 of the first quarter, the Engineers responded with an extra-player tally from Emily Speck at midway through eh quarter to even the game heading into the second.

RPI seized control with a decisive second-quarter surge, outscoring the Hawks 6-2 to take a four-goal lead halftime.

Following a New Paltz goal early in the frame, Ava Gilardone tied the contest at 2-2 at off an assist from Kacey Pritts and the Engineers' offense quickly found rhythm from there. Camille Stackhouse (assisted by Pritts) knotted the game again at 3-3, Audrey Silverman gave RPI its first lead with an unassisted finish, and Quinn Wollard converted a man-up goal off a feed from Adelaide Hughes with three minutes to go in the second.

RPI closed the half with two goals in the final minute, Caitlyn Speck finished a Pritts assist at 0:44, and Pritts buried a goal off Hughes at 0:13 after Nazareth's final tally of the half.

The Engineers added two more in the third to stretch the margin. Pritts scored unassisted at 12:13, and Stackhouse followed 45 seconds later for her second of the day off a Pritts helper.

Nazareth made its final push in the fourth, scoring three times, but RPI's defense helped preserve the advantage to close out the win.
