Women's Lacrosse Narrowly Defeated by RIT in Season-Finale

TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team built a four-goal first-quarter lead and held the advantage into the second half, but RIT used a decisive third-quarter run to earn an 11-9 Liberty League victory this afternoon at ECAV Stadium.

RPI was paced by a five-point effort from Audrey Silverman, who finished with one goal and four assists, while Beckett Houston, Camille Stackhouse, and Quinn Wollard each scored two goals. The Engineers also received goals from Lila Kania and Ava Gilardone, with assists from Abigail Couzens and Emily Speck. In goal, Halley Feaga made a season-high 11 saves.

The Engineers came out sharp and capitalized on special teams early, scoring four times in the opening quarter—three on the man advantage. Wollard struck twice on extra-player chances, Gilardone added a man-down goal, and Houston finished the surge with another man-up tally to give RPI a 4-0 lead. RIT answered with two late goals in the quarter to cut the margin to 4-2 after 15 minutes.

RIT pulled within one early in the second, but RPI responded with two key goals to regain breathing room. Kania finished a feed from Emily Speck, and Silverman scored off a Couzens assist to send the Engineers into halftime with a 6-3 advantage.

The Tigers flipped the game in the third, scoring five of the next six to take the lead. RPI answered with back-to-back man-up goals, with Houston and Stackhouse both converting unassisted strikes, to keep the Engineers even. RIT's late equalizer before the end of the period sent the game to the fourth tied at 8-8.

Stackhouse opened the final quarter with an unassisted finish to put RPI back in front, but RIT responded with three goals over the middle stretch of the period to regain control and close out the two-goal win.

RIT held advantages in shots (33-20) and ground balls (13-8), while the teams were even in draw controls (11-11) and clears (16-for-19 each). RPI went 1-for-5 on free-position chances but cashed in five man-up goals in the contest.

The Engineers finish the spring with an overall record of 6-9.
