TROY, N.Y. — The RPI men's soccer team opened Liberty League play with a scoreless draw against RIT this afternoon at ECAV Stadium. The Engineers held a 9-8 advantage in shots and put three attempts on goal.
RPI generated all nine of its shots during the opening half, with
Matt Schlotterbeck,
Diego Peredo, and
Justin Woodbine each forcing saves from RIT goalkeeper Kristian Dobbek.
Harrison Brownlow added two attempts, while
Joshua Jarden,
Noah Gregory, and
Christopher McKinney also helped create opportunities as the Engineers controlled much of the early attacking play.
The Engineers appeared to break through midway through the first half when Schlotterbeck headed home what appeared to be the opening score, however the goal was disallowed due to a delayed offsides call.
RIT would apply more pressure following halftime, but
Noah Churchill kept the Tigers off the scoreboard. Churchill made saves on Daniel Sucato and Adrian Sobczak during a second-half stretch in which RIT produced five shots. The Engineers' defense held firm through the closing minutes to preserve the scoreless result.
Churchill finished with two saves to record the shutout, while Dobbek made three stops for RIT. The two sides also finished even with three corner kicks apiece.
