TROY, N.Y. — The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team earned its first victory of the 2026 season with a 3-0 shutout of Mount Holyoke this afternoon at ECAV Stadium. The Engineers scored twice in the opening half before adding another goal after the break, while controlling the match with a 19-5 advantage in shots and a 10-0 edge in corner kicks.
RPI generated pressure throughout the opening stages, with
Sophia Byron putting an early effort on goal and
Maddy Kaminski adding another attempt shortly thereafter. The Engineers broke through in the 28th minute when Kaminski finished a setup from Byron and
Ava Davey with a header to give RPI a 1-0 advantage.
The Engineers continued to attack following the opener.
Annabelle Bachhuber forced a save, while
Allison Fleury put consecutive efforts on target during another sustained stretch of RPI pressure. Just before halftime,
Ally Buchanan doubled the advantage by converting a feed from Bachhuber, sending RPI into the break with a 2-0 lead.
RPI maintained control following halftime and added its third goal in the 66th minute when
Agapi Kouvlis found the back of the net to extend the Engineers' advantage to 3-0. The Engineer defense held Mount Holyoke without a single shot during the second half while the Engineers continued generating chances at the opposite end.
The Engineers finished the afternoon with 19 shots, including nine on goal. Kaminski recorded her third goal in as many games to open the season, while Buchanan and Kouvlis each registered their first tallies of the campaign. Bachhuber collected an assist to go along with two shots, while Byron and Davey also contributed helpers. Fleury put both of her attempts on target, and
Kalea Black,
Maddi Kriha, and
Clara Krumholz each finished with two shots.
Hanna Pihu handled the opening 45 minutes in goal and made two saves before
Ava Gaboury took over in the second half. The duo combined for RPI's first shutout of the season, limiting Mount Holyoke to five shots overall and only two on target.
