Wayne Halayko first became involved with the Rensselaer football program in 1980. He began as a coach with the offensive line and tight ends before serving as a scout. He has also been a game day spotter for the Engineers.
Halayko was a three-sport standout at Watervliet High School. He was an All-City Honorable Mention center and defensive end while playing for current RPI head coach Joe King.
Halayko went on to the Albany College of Pharmacy, where he was a two-time All-Conference selection in basketball.
Halayko, who spent five years as an assistant football coach at Watervliet High before originally joining the Engineers, is a pharmacist at Albany Medical Center.
Halayko and his wife, Cathy, reside in Niskayuna. They have two children, Dan, a lacrosse student-athlete at the University of Maryland, and Beth, who attends Cornell University, where she plays on the lacrosse team.
