Bob Conway coordinates academic advising services for Rensselaer’s student-athletes, a responsibility he has held for more than 40 years. Formerly the director of the Advising and Learning Assistance Center, he has worked closely with the student-athletes, as well as with the coaching staff and administration, to ensure that Rensselaer’s student-athletes maintain one of the highest graduation rates in the nation - at any level.

In his previous position, Conway was responsible for starting a number of programs aimed at assisting RPI’s students through their academic careers. Under his leadership, the Center oversaw the development of a variety of new advising programs, including the Faculty Intervention Program, Meet Your Advisor Day and an extensive website of advising information.

For his efforts, Conway, a native of Troy, was honored with the first-ever “Pillars of Rensselaer Award.” This award is presented to a long-term staff member who understands the Institute’s mission and history, has been a role model for other employees, shows concern for students and their welfare, adds to the human dimension of the school and who plays an active role in their home community. The nominee must be employed as a staff member for at least 10 years.

A former mayor of the City of Troy, Conway holds an AAS degree in business administration from Hudson Valley Community College, a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in business from the University of Albany, a Master’s degree in educational administration from Albany and an honorary doctor of law degree from Manhattan College.
