Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Athletics

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) added Brian McElroy as an assistant athletic trainer in July 2022. He is one of seven trainers on the Engineers' staff, which is led by Chris Thompson.

A native of Delmar, N.Y., McElroy comes to RPI after spending the last 10 years as an assistant athletic trainer at Siena College in nearby Loudonville, N.Y. With the Saints, he worked primarily with women's soccer and both the men's and women's lacrosse programs. 

Before moving back to the Capital Region, McElroy gained valuable clinical experience serving Division I athletes at Princeton University during the 2011-12 athletic season. He provided pre-activity preparations, rehabilitation programs and practice and game coverage for several teams, including football and men's lacrosse.

A 2010 graduate of the University of Rhode Island, McElroy worked directly with the Rams training staff and assisted in every practice and game during spring football season. Upon graduation he worked at South Plainfield and Jackson Memorial High School in New Jersey, assisting in the care for over 800 student athletes from the fall of 2010 to the spring of 2011.
