Abby van Geldren was announced to the coaching staff of Rensselaer's women's soccer team in fall 2012.
A former goalkeeper, van Geldern played at St. Lawrence University from 2009-2012, where she was a four-year starter and two-year captain. In 71 career games, 64 of which she started, she played 6533.33 minutes, allowing just 65 goals. She posted a 34-22-13 record with a school record 0.90 goals against average and an .850 save percentage.
She had 25 shutouts on her way to being a four-time All-Liberty League selection. An eight-time Defensive Performer of the Week, van Geldern helped the Saints to two league tournament appearances.
Her best individual season came as a junior when she was 10-6-0 with five shutouts, a 0.89 goals against average and an .860 save percentage. She was an All-Liberty League First Team honoree.
In addition to being a student-athlete, van Geldern served as an admissions ambassador at St. Lawrence, meeting with prospective students and their families, as well as leading campus tours. She earned her degree in anthropology in 2012.
The Rowayton, Conn., native has coaching experience at various levels, having worked with the Darien (Conn.) Soccer Association (4-6 year olds), the Lake Placid Soccer Centre (12-18 year olds) and the St. Lawrence Girls Soccer Academy (16-18 year olds).
