Justin Roe was named the head women's tennis coach in the summer of 2017 after serving as an assistant coach at Division I Seattle University.

Justin RoeThe Central New York native has enjoyed tremendous success in recruiting highly-ranked student-athletes in each of his first few years. The Class of 2022 was listed 19th by tennisrecruiting.net and the following class was 15th. Those rankings are the only times in program history Rensselaer has been included.

He led the Engineers to a 10-6 overall record, including seven non-conference victories, and a bid into the Liberty League Tournament in his first season. The team posted eight wins the following year and then two more in 2019-20 before the campaign was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  A truncated 2021 campaign allowed for five matches, which RPI won a pair despite a limited roster because of coronavirus-related restrictions. Regardless of the shortened season, Roe's squad qualified for the Liberty League Tournament and placed four on All-Conference teams.

Highlights from the 2019-20 season included Alex Mednikova listed 23rd in the Northeast in singles and 13th in doubles with playing partner Rani Jones in the final listings. Both of the rankings are believed to be the highest in school history. Mednikova was also ranked nationally during the course of the season. Additionally, Tess Lubin was honored with the ITA Regional Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award.

At Seattle, Roe was the assistant coach for the men's and women's programs, aiding with practices, including conducting individual sessions, and recruiting while helping the women's team to the conference semifinals.

He was previously the head coach of both the men and women for two years at Division III Earlham College in Indiana. In two seasons with the Quakers, the team reached a program-high regional ITA ranking of 10th and eight student-athletes earned All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference First Team, including a two-time Player of the Year.

From 2011-14, Roe was an academic advisor at North Carolina State University, where he also taught in the NCSU First Year College. He was the recipient of the National Association of College Activities National New Professionals Award in 2013 and the NACA Southern New Professionals Award in 2012.

Roe, who also taught high-performance tennis to female high school students while in North Carolina, was the assistant tennis coach at D'Youville College in Buffalo from 2009-11.

As a collegiate player at Keuka College from 2005-09, he started every match in singles and doubles. He broke the school record for doubles wins in a season in 2008 and set the school mark for wins in a career the following year. He was the 2006 Keuka Athletics Rookie of the Year, received the Keuka Tennis Coaches Award in 2007 and 2008, and the Keuka Tennis Most Valuable Player in 2009.

Roe received his undergraduate degrees from Keuka in criminology and pre-law, and earned a graduate degree from SUNY Buffalo in higher education and student affairs administration. He served as a graduate assistant career counselor while at Buffalo.
