Jon Rogers was hired as the throws coach in August of 2019 following six years in Rochester, N.Y.
During the 2019-20 indoor campaign, he helped the Engineers to a trio of team wins and three runner-up finishes. One of the second place finishes came at the Liberty League Championship Meet, where five RPI student-athletes finished in the top five in the throws events. Senior Mark Shapiro was runner-up in the shot put and third in the weight throw, while Morgan Daley had a fourth place result in the women's weight.
Rogers did not have the opportunity to coach during the outdoor season due its cancelation because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Averill Park, N.Y., native came back to the Capital Region after a coaching at Roberts Wesleyan University, a Division II program in 2018-19. As the throws coach, he helped the women's team to an East Coast Conference outdoor championship (8 schools) and a runner-up finish at the NCCAAÂ Outdoor Championship (22). The Redhawks were second in the conference's indoor meet, which had 11 schools.
The men were third in the league's indoor (10 schools) and outdoor (7) meets as well as at the NCCAA Championship (25) with the help of Rogers, who also has experience at his alma mater, The College of Brockport.
As a student-athlete for the Golden Eagles from 2013-17, Rogers posted 36 victories, including 21 in the shot put, nine in the discus and five in the weight throw. Three of his wins in the shot put came at SUNYAC Championship Meets and two were in ECAC Championships. He was the SUNYAC discus champion once.
Rogers, a two-time team MVP, was an NCAA Championship Meet qualifier in the shot put four times, earning All-America twice in 2017. He was third in the nation in outdoor and fourth in indoor.
He was the Brockport Men's Athlete of the Year as a senior and the John Izzo Leadership Award recipient as a junior and sophomore.
Rogers majored in Journalism & Broadcasting with a focus on Media Production. He had minors in coaching and theater.
