New Paltz Leads After Day 1 of RPI Invite

Engineers currently second of four teams


TROY, NY - After one day of action, the singles, SUNY New Paltz leads the Rensselaer Invitational Women's Tennis Tournament, hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) at Prospect Park. The two-day, four-team tournament concludes with the doubles on Sunday morning beginning at 10am.

The Hawks saw their student-athletes capture three of the six singles flights while Hartwick College was victorious in two. New Paltz currently has 15 points, followed by Rensselaer with eight. Hartwick and St. John Fisher each have seven team points.

The singles portion of the tournament was set up with four players in six different flights. Each player played the other three competitors in a one-set (first to eight point) match. The person who won the most matches in their individual flights earned a point for their team.
