Baseball Announces 2010 Captains

TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer baseball team has announced its captains for the 2010 season and student-athletes Patrick Reardon and Andrew Krushelnyski have been selected. Both players have played significant roles in the team’s success over the last three seasons, including establishing a new school record for wins a season ago (37-13).

A senior catcher from Troy, N.Y., Reardon hit a club-best .409 (79 for 193) with 22 doubles, a triple and 10 home runs, last year. The Liberty League Player of the Year set new single-season school records in hits (79) and runs scored (61), while driving in 54. The catcher led the team with a .689 slugging percentage and a .491 on-base percentage.

The former LaSalle Institute standout also broke the single-season games played mark, playing in all 50 games. An All-Region First Team selection at catcher, Reardon’s 22 doubles in 2009 rank second in school history, while his 10 home runs were third. Nationally, he was seventh in doubles, 11th in hits, 14th in total bases and 25th in runs scored.

In his career, Reardon is a .386 (175 for 453) hitter in 129 games. He has recorded 45 doubles, which is second all-time at RPI, while also collecting two triples, 15 home runs, 128 runs scored and 123 runs batted in. Seeing time in the outfield, as well as designated hitter throughout his career, he has a .594 lifetime slugging percentage and a .473 on-base percentage.

Krushelnyski, a senior first baseman from Bloomfield Hills, Mich., hit .299 (55 for 184), while playing in 49 games, last season. He recorded eight doubles, a triple, two home runs, 38 runs scored and 44 runs batted in – all career-highs. He had a .371 on-base percentage and a .386 slugging percentage, while stealing the first two bases of his collegiate career.

A former Brother Rice High School standout, Krushelnyski has a .285 (68 for 239) career batting average, with nine doubles, a triple and three home runs. He has scored 44 runs, with 60 RBI, carrying a .353 on-base percentage and a .368 slugging percentage. He has committed eight errors in 508 defensive chances for a .984 fielding percentage.

The Engineers are listed 13th in the D3Baseball.com Top 25 and 16th in the Division III Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Pre-Season Poll. Reardon and senior pitcher Andrew Mondo (11-3, 3.03 ERA in 2009) were also selected as players to watch by the online publication, Baseball America Today.
